BOOMERANG

Boomerang adalah sebuah kelompok musik rock papan atas Indonesia dari Surabaya. Resmi berdiri pada 8 Mei 1994 dengan nama `Lost Angels`, tetapi sudah mulai berkiprah sejak tahun 1991. Mereka konsisten tampil di jalur rock, meskipun demikian mereka tidak membatasi pengaruh berbagai macam aliran/style musik. Itu semua menjadi semacam trade mark atau ciri musik yang berbeda dari kelompok ini.

Pada awal tahun ‘90-an, Hubert Henry Limahelu a.k.a. ‘HH5H’ (bass), John Paul Ivan a.k.a. ‘JPI’ (gitar), Roy Jeconiah Isoka Wurangian (vokal) dan seorang drummer mendirikan sebuah band dengan nama ‘Lost Angels’, sebuah permainan kata dari nama kota Los Angeles dan sekaligus berarti `Malaikat Tersesat`. Pada tahun 1994 mereka direkrut oleh perusahaan rekaman Logiss Record. Dan pada bulan Maret – April 1994 dibawah produser Log Zhelebour di studio Nirwana Record, Surabaya, mereka bekerja hampir 18 jam setiap harinya untuk merekam album perdana mereka. Sementara selesai dengan proses rekaman album perdana mereka dan menunggu pembuatan cover kaset, mereka memutuskan untuk mengeluarkan drummer mereka karena tingkah lakunya tidak bisa lagi sejalan dengan idealisme tujuan semula kelompok mereka dan terlalu mementingkan materi pribadi.Pada 8 Mei 1994 mereka sepakat untuk mengganti nama Lost Angels menjadi Boomerang yang juga menjadi judul album perdana mereka yang dirilis dipasaran pada 1 Juli 1994 dengan single hit `Kasih`.

Oleh karena itu pada pembuatan klip `Kasih` di album pertama, mereka hanya tampil bertiga. Untuk mengisi kekosongan posisi drummer pada saat mereka harus melakukan tour dan konser, mereka merekrut Farid Martin yang dikenal mereka dari Mas Tony, Sound Engineer pada album pertama dan kedua Boomerang. Pada tanggal 1 Januari 1995 Farid Martin resmi menjadi anggota tetap Boomerang. Namun pada pertengahan 2005, didasari “perbedaan prinsip”, JPI memilih untuk keluar dari Booomerang dan memutuskan untuk bekerja sendiri. JPI membentuk band supergrup Trio JPI bersama dengan bassis Bondan Prakoso dari Funky Kopral dan Cliff sebagai drummer. Sebagai pengganti JPI, Boomerang sempat merekrut dua gitaris muda Indonesia, Oi dari Power Metal dan Tommy gitaris asal Riau. Tidak puas dengan performa mereka, Boomerang merekrut salah satu gitaris handal Indonesia Andry Franzzy yang merupakan mantan gitaris Powerslaves pada awal tahun 2006.
